Duguid: Get used to it!

Brad Duguid, Minister of Energy

By KENNEDY GORDON , Peterborough Examiner

A similar opposition has arisen around wind turbines, Duguid said; while turbine farms are planned for many Ontario communities, including the Millbrook, Bethany and Hastings areas, residents do have concerns.

Awareness will ease that, he said.   “It’s new. Anything new, whether it be new developments, whether it be other forms of energy generation projects, often get the same response,” Duguid said.

Clear skies and fresh air: that’s the province’s goal as it moves for ward in implementing its Clean Energy Act. Energy Minister Brad Duguid made those plans the focus while visiting SunRise Power Corp. in Cavan Monaghan Tuesday.

The company, located just west of the city off the North Monaghan Parkway, marked its first anniversary with a visit from the minister, MPP Jeff Leal and other guests.

Duguid toured the facility and spoke to staff about his government’s Green Energy Act, aimed at developing, through the private sector, alternatives to the coal-burning energy.

The goal is to close the province’s coal plants, he said.

“Our efforts to build a clean-energy economy have resulted in billions of dollars in investment coming into Ontario through the private sector,” Duguid told The Examiner after touring the facility, which manufactures solar energy inverters and solar panels.

“It’s resulting in thousands of jobs being created in communities right across the province,” he Our estimate is by the end of 2012 we’ll have created about 50,000 jobs; there’s about 13,000 jobs already in place.”

But that’s not the case, says MPP John Yakabuski (Renfrew-Nipissing- Pembroke), the Progressive Conservative energy critic.

“The numbers out of the premier’s office claim only 8,227 jobs that have been created,” he said. “That’s a far cry from the 13,000 that Minister Duguid is claiming.”

The opposition Tories and the NDP have taken the Liberals to task over the Green Energy Act, saying the immediate costs outweigh any potential benefits.

“What we found was that over and over and over again, the government, when it’s out trying to justify the Green Energy Act and the ridiculous increases in hydro costs that it’s led to, they exaggerate quite substantially the number of jobs that have been created, with no insurance that those jobs will be sustainable once this build-out is done,” Yakabuski said.

“Whereas long-term manufacturing jobs have been lost under this government.”

Duguid said he shrugs off that kind of criticism; change carries a cost, he said.

“Despite the shifty pronouncements from the opposition, Ontario families know we can’t build a clean, reliable energy system for free,” he said, adding the province introduced a hydro subsidy last year to help ease the transition as the new harmonized sales tax was added to electricity bills.

  1. When these people open their mouths, always watch carefully for the newest spin – they practise it in the shower, over and over, before ever speaking in public.

Now – it is pat them on the head and say – “it’s new, they’ll get used to it”. Notice, they are no longer calling us names (that job has been downloaded to the developers who don’t rely on being re-elected), they are no longer denying the realty of the destructiveness of Industrial Wind Turbines – now, it is “they’ll get used to it”!!

Well – Mr. Duguid – how does opposition sound? (don’t worry though, you’ll get used to it)

  2. Sorry Brad, awareness will not ease concern, it will reveal the truth and more people will come to find out that wind energy must be paired with fossil fuels because of its intermittent, unreliable and inefficient form of electrical generation. How is that suppose to clean up our air and provide a source of clean reliable electrical energy for this province? There has been zero scientific testing of wind energy for technical matters (e.g. reliability) and economics. So why are we as impacted residents and ratepayers, expected to suck it up when not one of these alternative or “green” sources of energy are mandated without independent testing. This is completely unfair and unethical where our gov’t is relying on the wind industry to set noise standards, set-backs for safety, and subsidization levels needed to make their industry profitable.

    or….

“Despite more than 100,000 huge wind turbines in operation around the world, with about 35,000 in North America, no coal plants have been closed because of wind technology. In fact, many more coal plants are in the offing, both in the US and throughout the world. Moreover, a Colorado energetics company, Bentek, recently published a study about wind in Texas and Colorado showing, in its study areas, that wind volatility caused coal plants to perform more inefficiently, “often resulting in greater SO2, NOx, and CO2 emissions than would have occurred if less wind energy were generated and coal generation was not cycled.” Further examination of fuel use for electricity in both states during the time of inquiry suggested that wind caused no reduction in coal consumption.” …Jon Boone, http://www.masterresource.org/

  4. This “Wind Turbine/Clean Energy Scheme” is anything but NEW! It is nothing more than another “Ponzi Scheme” that tries to sell a bag of $#!t for hard earned $$$ all the while telling you that it’s a bag of Gold!

This is nothing more than the age old “scam and run” dealings we have all experienced when a magazine salesman hits town, knocks on a hundred doors, scams about 50% of the homes out of cash promising delivery of 30+ subscriptions in a week and then leaves town with all the money!

Duguid is too young and too uninformed to even comment on what is good or bad for US, let alone tell US we will get “used to the noise, bad health effects, ruined property values, destruction of jobs, destruction of wildlife let alone how “good” we will all feel with this “new” Green and Clean Free power!”

Isn’t their rules that false claims can’t be reported by newspapers?…………..after all we aren’t supposed to listen to music anymore with offensive “gay” words in it or read books with offensive “racial stereotyping”, so why do we have to listen to a Doogy Howser telling us stuff that isn’t true!

  5. Duguid – “Awareness will ease residents
    concerns about turbines.”

Far from it, the more you learn about the
turbines, the wind industry, the greenies,
the corruption, the scam…, the sicker you get.

  6. There is nothing “new” for those suffering the ill affects of Industrial Wind Turbines. This Liberal Provincial government just refuses to recognize their own citizens suffering!

  7. How much of a kick back is the government getting? It does point that way especially when Dr Arlene King refuses to talk to the citizens of this Province that have been impacted by them. We have a dictator running this Province. What happened to democracy????

  8. “Change carries a cost” Duguid can quote that next fall when we change governments. Ignorance maintains support for industrial wind while awareness is to realize that industrial wind is nothing more than a non-sustainable scam. Lots of our money, fewer jobs and for no additional power. There are also the affect to homes and environment, loss of bats, birds and habitat. This is in most part a permanent loss, not to be taken back when more realize the mistake and want the industrial wind turbines gone. All ignorant government officials should gain awareness by owning property, living and raising their families 24/7 at minimum setbacks, next to an industrial wind turbine complex. Until then how dare they speak with any authority?

  9. “developments, whether it be other forms of energy generation projects, often get the same response,” Duguid said.”

New? NEW? What’s new? The Liberals still lie and steal our money to feed the bottomless pockets of their greedy friends, that’s not new…

Obviously, that grossly incompetent, egregiously over paid energy minster never went here:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_wind_power

The first wind powered generator was built in 1887, the first 1 MW sized IWT began supplying the grid in Vermont, USA in 1941! The first industrial wind “farms” were built in California 30 YEARS AGO and today sit derelict and abandoned. Denmark started doing wind generation over 100 years ago, in a big way 20 years ago and largely curtailed further embrace of it almost a decade ago! (2003)

Even after MORE THEN 100 YEARS OF CONTINUOUS DEVELOPMENT wind has proven to be an ABJECT FAILURE at providing meaningful electrical energy to meet the needs of the people! Just because they’re bigger (well, not really) and there is a lot more of them doesn’t mean they are better!

The only thing “new” is the latest lies spewed by the Liberals to justify their fraud!

BTW, can anyone actually confirm exactly how many jobs have been both created and more importantly lost as a direct result of the GEA?

Also, BTW, in order for Brains NoGuid to sit in opposition he has to get re-elected.

Any guesses as to his chances?
