Big Turnout for Turbine Opposition Rally in Seaforth

by Travis Pedwell, Bayshore Broadcasting

A rally of between 200 and 300 people showed up at the Seaforth Community Centre last night in protest of turbine projects in the area. Member of Huron East Against Turbines Robert Tetu called the tractor rally outstanding. He says the amount of support received just goes to show the community doesn’t want wind farms.

Tetu tells Bayshore Broadcasting News among other things residents are afraid of health problems, and their property values dropping. Tetu says they are sick and tired of being treated like second class citizens. Tetu notes companies are making a lot of money on people that live in rural areas. He says St. Columban energy and the developer are from Calgary Alberta. Overall Tetu believes the amount of support is great for Huron East.

He says they were hoping for 20 tractors and 50 showed up to brave the cold. Tetu says his biggest concern with wind turbines are the health effects. He says there has been no study on the stray voltage, low frequency noise, shadow flicker, and audible noise. Tetu says he’s not in favour of coal but it’s a better idea than turbines. He tells us coal health effects are blown out of proportion. He adds if they scrubbed the coal plants – it wouldn’t be as bad.

Tetu tells us if the government has to have turbines – put them farther away from residents. HEAT has a petition against turbines with the signatures of those that showed up for the protest rally. Tetu says they will be presenting it to Carol Mitchell, John Wilkinson and try to present it to Dalton McGuinty.

  1. Solidarity against the subversive wind companies and the Liberal party of Ontario is our only hope. To expose the dangers of the wind turbines and the down right government corruption and grafting. Legalized stealing and negligence is what it is!! Make your vote count October 6th. Let’s put an end to this nightmare.

  2. No one has to have industrial wind turbines. The IWTs do nothing but siphon off money from rate payers for no net gain in electricity. Even selling at a loss or paying someone else to take it off the grid means other reliable power has to be generated to smooth it out. With IWTs on line Ontario has to generating more electricity than would have been needed if it was not for the IWT unreliable and unstable output. IWTs are a miserable failure and waste of money.

  3. Carol Mitchell will do nothing, she is in McGuinty’s back pocket, he says jump and she says how high.
The answer is to VOTE for the Progressive Conservative Party, get rid of the Liberal’s once and for all.

  4. Zen you are absolutely right — but no one (politicians) can get that through their head that they are a waste of money. Here in US, it doesn’t matter which political party because we have this stupid nonsense about having so much “renewable’ “green” power by a certain date. This is got to be the biggest scam I’ve seen. A cooperative electric company locally is putting up a 1.5 MW turbine that will (they say) power 300 – 400 homes. The turbine costs a large sum of money, most of which is being paid for out of grants, low interest loans and taxpayer money. And, I imagine down the road the ratepayers.
I congratulate the people on the protest, most of us south of you are either unaware or unorganized to fight for our rights in regards to wind projects. Or, the large wind companies and farm bureau lobbyist have the power with the legislators.

    • Keep fighting Bette, when the public starts to understand the wind scam the politicians have to start listening or they get voted out as McGuinty will soon find out. Public awareness is your best defense.

  5. Thanks to everyone for supporting the Province wide protests against the rampant spread of Industrial Wind Turbines. Health of our citizens comes first!

  6. Yes I was there, what great responds we had, it’s time to educate the city folk that they will pay for all this down the road in taxes, hydro bills and anything they purchase food, cars , truck or entertainment. If you have young kids or grand children this have not province will so be a third world place if something is not done on OCTOBER 6th. Vote Conservative
