Save The Great Spirit Island

A Traditional Pow Wow was held in South Bay Road (Doogaaning) on Wikwemikong First Nation on June 18 & 19. The Celebration of Life, dancing on Mother Earth is non competition and is held in other locations throughout Wikwemikong returning on a 5 year cycle.  There were various home made “No WIND Turbine Signs” along the road and at the information booth across from the Pow Wow grounds at well as WCO signs which was setup by the Wikwemikong Elders and Youth. Information handouts and buttons of “Save The Great Spirit Island” were well received by the visitors to the booth.

Two busloads of tourists from India and Germany came to the booth and supported the opposition to Industrial Wind Turbine exploitation of Manitoulin Island. Many residents, visitors and participants signed the petitions and offered words of suppport.

MCSEA attended the booth supporting the Elders and Youth as we stand together to inform the people and raise awareness on this issue.

  1. Miigwech. …. may your voices be heard across the Province.

  2. Manitoulin Island is a special place respected by those who know how fast its values could be lost forever. For those that stand firm to save the sacred Island from the invasion of industrial wind turbines. Thanks.

  3. Unfortunately for Manitoulin Island the tourist destination, some bad word of mouth re IWTs may already be filtering back to Germany and India. Europeans, in particular, have no interest in spending big bucks to visit industrial wastelands. And who can blame them?
