CAW Project Being Challenged in Saugeen Shores

CKNX News
Efforts to stop the construction of a wind turbine near homes in Saugeen Shores appear to be falling on deaf ears. Close to 300 people protested today outside the Canadian Auto Workers Education Centre south of Port Elgin. They are upset the turbine is being built so close to homes in the area.

But because the project was approved before the Green Energy Act was passed it does not have to meet the current setback regulations. Construction has already begun on the CAW property.

There has been no comment from officials with the union. Among the people at the protest today were the Mayor of Saugeen Shores Mike Smith, Huron Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson and Huron Bruce MP Ben Lobb.

    What a crock!

  2. There’s a lot of documentation going on in regards to this nefarious project by the CAW in the town of Saugeen Shores.Maybe a boycott of the companies involved in this, should happen, for starters….Why is a Union (CAW) hiring non-union local contractors to get the work done..??? This goes against the grain of unionism, at least from my perspective as a union member myself !! it’s also well known who these contractors are, and sooner or later , it will come to light for everyone, and we will ALL know who in the community , they are…!! By the way, has anyone contacted the Saugeen First Nations about this?? Are they on board here??
