An audience with the WTO: Japan and EU come forward with grievances against Ontario FiTs

By Nilima Choudhury, PVTech
Almost a year and a half ago, Japan brought its grievances against FiTs in the Canadian province of Ontario to the World Trade Organisation (WTO). The EU has now joined the fray and the WTO Dispute Settlement Body has committed itself to establishing a panel to hear the EU’s claims against the apparent discriminatory nature of Ontario’s FiTs. Formal panel proceedings, however, are not expected to start before the end of March.  Read article

  1. That’s O.K…..McGuinty will spend our tax dollars to hire lawyers and arranging trips for witnesses while our Health Care System and Education System get’s it’s guts ripped out of it because of the World-Wide Recession that has caused Ontario to go broke!
Also McGuinty thinks he has friends in the Unions that will let him off the hook by freezing their wages voluntarily.
“What Fresh Hell is This?”…………….I would ask…………………….

  2. The present government has jumped on quite a few bandwagons without ever considering the longterm consequences.

  3. I am sick and tired of reading claims such as these:
“The turbines would generate 26 million kilowatts a year, enough to power 2,500 homes and reduce greenhouse gases by 14,000 tonnes.”
Are there no consumer rights as to false claims made by manufacturers, advertisers, etc.? Where is the proof that any of the above statements are correct? If the above is based on capacity rating of the IWTs, then the statement is false in the first instance. The reduction of greenhouse gases is misleading since wind requires gas or coal backup actually increasing greenhouse gases, aside from the fact that the theoretical greenhouse gas savings are just that! It is time to charge all those making these false statements.

  4. I had the same reaction, when I read those offensive statements Karen. It just goes on & on.
I guess they`re using the Liberals tried & true method of convincing people of their lies. If you repeat a lie often enough, it starts to become true fact in the minds of listeners, who `ve no way of knowing the difference.
They most definately should be charged with something, considering the extreme damage their project will do to an entire community. They obviously must know that, so it`s malicious, aggrevated, assault causing bodily harm, times as many victims, as there ends up being.
