Six applications for review by the Environmental Review Tribunal
Simcoe – The Haldimand-Samsung wind/solar project is not yet a fait a compli.
As the deadline for appeals passed earlier this week, six separate local applications for appeal were registered by the Environmental Review Tribunal.
The McGuinty Samsung deal for 67 wind turbines, 800 acres of solar panels and a 20 km long transmission line across Haldimand County received Renewable Energy Approval on June 15th.
“Given the amount of opposition from those contacting my office, the ministry and media, holding rallies, and attending open houses, I look forward to the process now that six separate applications for appeal have been registered,” Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Toby Barrett noted. “This appeal process of the Environmental Review Tribunal marks the final opportunity for local input before the gates open for industrial wind turbines across Haldimand and massive subsidies to Samsung.”
Barrett added that the decision to approve the project was announced following a previous 30-day consultation period on the EBR environment registry that engendered 101 comments. Of the 29 comments available to be read online, only one favoured the project.
“People’s voices have been shut out by McGuinty’s Green Energy Act, I can only hope the Environmental Review Tribunal affords residents the platform they deserve to make their case regarding local impacts,” continued Barrett

What none of us deserve is to have to scrape money together to defend ourselves. Out taxes pay for the process, our government should pay to have its citizens represented.
The present government now represents the renewable energy industry and not the affected people of Ontario.
For lack of a better description it’s called “oppression”. Many of our families have lost their loved ones fighting against it. It seems that whenever democratic rights are removed, the people will eventually become frustrated enough to rise up and demand to have them returned. It’s supposed to be the government “of the people” which is no longer the case in Ontario since it’s been high jacked by the renewable energy industry
Same thing in Germany. When the solar subsidies were cut there immediate pressure was put on the government by the solar industry to keep providing subsidies. The renewable energy top dogs have access to high level government officials that rural Ontarians just don’t have.
So leaving a comment at the EBR is worth it? I guess we can thank Toby for pointing that out. Even if our comments are ignored, with the Liberals passing their new budget, commenting sections won’t even exist. Ontario is getting pretty creepy.
