Shelburne is the name most use to identify the wind turbine mess over in the municipalities of Melancthon and Amaranth since it’s the largest town closest to it all. Dufferin Wind Power (DWP) was a ‘community wind project’ no less harmful at conception than what it has become now, almost fully owned by a Chinese state owned company called Longyuan. This Chinese state owned company now dictates turbine location, road and transmission line location and is drilling test holes anywhere it decides things will work best for the company, including a leaseholder’s airstrip.
July 5 Melancthon agenda, page 18 of 142 is where Bill’s letter is and it’s worth reading the rest of the agenda that pertains to DWP as well.
Please see Mayor Bill Hill’s request of McGuinty to see a list of the townships willing to host wind turbines (p 18).

How did these community wind project people ever think that they would have enough money to build an IWT project to begin with? Common sense would have told them that they would need outside financial help to build their project. Seems to me that this community wind energy idea was set up so that big companies with money could move in on projects like these and take them over. Same thing for the small companies who get initial go aheads who know they can’t make it without big bucks entering the picture or only intend to sell out shortly for bags of money.
Just so you know there is no list. The words that you quote as coming from McGuinty’s mouth were just verbal diarrhea. Seems the dilemma is, the Premier has a marble rolling around in his head which every once in a while happens to agitate an acoustic sensor. This causes his mouth to open and expel some twaddle. The past history of this phenomenon has proven that 100% of the time that this occurred, it has produced an untruth. Hope this is helpful in explaining why there is no list.
He said it; he should be accountable for it. While I agree that his mouth frequently opens before his mind is in gear and this results in significant amounts of “twaddle”, I applaud those who are trying to hold him accountable for what he has said.
(On re-reading this, I realize that it implies his mind eventually gets in gear. That is questionable. I question whether his mind is ever in gear. However, it still remains he said it; he should be accountable for it/)
I absolutely agree that McGuinty need to be held to account for what he says and does and I also applaud anyone who attempt to do so. I’m sure there is no list and was simple using a little tongue in cheek clarification of why. If I even remotely implied he actually has a brain and may occasionally use it, I’m sorry. Like I said it’s simple an empty sphere with a marble rolling around in it. At this point, he’s been effectively reduced to a puppet for the renewable energy industry, who are pulling the strings that make his head move. This man has never told the truth and wouldn’t know what it would even sound like.
Melancthon turbines began as local farmers, who did NOT sign up to sell their farms and land to Highland Companies (of mega quarry fame) either because they didnt want to, or they were not offered as much for their land – resulting in a ‘sour grapes’ situation. So – to ‘get back’ at Highland Companies they put their “numb-nut” heads together and devised this plan for turbine erections, with NO consideration whatsoever for anybody else living in the area. Unfortunately it back-fired on them when they ‘ran out of money’ (?) and were bought out by the Chinese company – hence Dufferin Wind Power. As one local farmer (who did sign up for turbines) informed me, they did it because they were” tired of ‘struggling’ ” hmmmm Define struggling please, when you own hundreds of revenue creating farming acres, as well as local businesses…. if that is struggling I wouldnt mind struggling a little!!!! Add to that her comment “people wont like it, but that’s how it is going to be” – similar words spoken directly from the mouth of Snr VP for DWP at the open house – to us ‘small homesteaders’ …I hope this clarifies it a little.

Pathetic display of farmers’ letters to council.
start pdf. 40 (142)
In particular – Bert Tupling’s statement:
‘Council needs to get behind this project if you support farms and farmers.’
The OFA stood behind –
farmers working in secret – without kind consideration to others in the community.
Sorry –
Farmers should learn a new word: ‘cronyism’ – and it should not be supported!
Picking ‘winners and losers’ is ethically wrong.
Just an FYI, but I think an important one.
There have been other letters of opposition sent in that did not get posted on this Melancthon agenda. See below and I’m sure there are many more.

Re: Rail bed easement – Vote June 14th
The residents of Dufferin County are fraught with desperation from changes being made to our home environments and our standard of living. For the benefit of a few, many people are suffering under an oppressive march to renewable energy in our county.
Not only do we have families who are being made ill by wind turbines but many have had to move or abandon their homes due to emissions of loud cyclical noise, low frequency noise and vibration, infrasound and dirty electricity directly related to the projects. It is documented. Property values are declining in areas of wind turbines and substations.
We all know this. It is not news.
The Ontario government is marching full steam ahead evenafter 1,000’s of complaints have been made through their offices. Those having problems have fallen into a black hole with no help whatsoever from any ministry or agency. I have documents to support my statement.
To go forward with leasing land to allow a transmission line on our rail beds will enable the continued destruction of this county.
Please, I implore you to stop this cycle of abuse of our environment and of the residents.
It is clear, backed up by peer review studies, independent experts and research, that the Ontario government has taken the wrong path in the desire to become leaders in what is clearly a globally failing renewable energy plan.
(www.windvigilance.comon health news)
Please vote NO to the leasing of the rail beds for transmission lines. Please do not sell us out further to corporations that do not care about the residents. Decisions are being made that are not well thought out and the residents are the ones to suffer with no mitigation measures in place to help them.
I would be happy to talk with any of you in further detail about what is happening to so many.
It needs to stop. You, our local councils are the only levelheaded people who clearly see what is happening and have talked to the people on the ground. The most recent wind project that went online just months ago in Grey Highlands already have families being affected.
Please, consider what you know about the problems and do not vote for financial or business reasons.
We need to try to restore the residents faith that we have a some degree of input and protection left, that our elected members care about all of us and not just a chosen few.
The provincial government has failed miserably in protecting us.
Municipal and County Councils are our only hope left.
The choices you make today can put us on the path to saner, and most importantly safer, policies for tomorrow.
Our children and grandchildren deserve nothing less.
Yep, I found another one

Dear Council Members,
I am writing this to ask you to please vote no to selling the easement of the rail bed to Dufferin Wind Power for the transmission line. My husband and I have just finished building a home on a beautiful piece of property. It took us almost two years to accomplish, on weekends and we’ve just moved in this week. A neighbor contacted us and told us about the wind turbines. We had no idea!! We have been saving for this for close to 20 years and decided on Melancthon Township for our location. We were never told that there would be 4 wind turbines going in approximately 500 meters from our bedroom window. I am fraught over what’s going to happen when they are installed. It’s most likely that it will affect the value of our home but even worse, how will it affect our health? Will we have to move out?
In doing some research on this subject, I have noticed that farmers that receive free money taken in part from the taxpayers, wind companies getting millions in subsidies and companies that lobby for wind are the biggest supporters of wind. Human behavior being what it is, I suppose it’s natural that those who get “free” money would indeed support whatever source it came from. However, Canadian energy policy should not be based on what group can grab the most tax money.
I have also found that supporters of wind turbines say that they are safe and should not be cause for concern. Opponents say that they cause adverse health effects. People are abandoning their homes due to these health issues!! Am I to be the next guinea pig?
Locally, there is a farmer who wanted to build his daughter a house on his land but cannot due to living in a protected forest area. Yet he can lease land, the trees can be cut and turbines put in, all while paying him a tidy sum. So did environmentalists lie about the need to protect biodiversity before?
Please vote no. Our future, it seems, depends on it.
Thank you,
