I hope those options will be made known to other Councils.

Part about Smitherman’s submission to the Ontario review of the green energy strategy which might reveal what was known and when. What was done and when? Does anyone have a copy of his submission?

      How lucky for Pickfield –
now on – ‘his’ legal opinion – tour

      Question:
Wouldn’t it be wise – to get ‘another’ legal opinion?

Are municipalities – normal or nuts?

‘[excerpt] Council had a report from lawyer Peter Pickfield at its Aug. 12 council meeting. Warden Joanne Ross-Zuj said after the closed meeting the legal opinion will also be sent to all municipal staff in the county. County council is taking the lead on ways to oppose wind turbine projects where it can in the county, and is working with its lower tier municipalities to do that.

“We have now prepared ourselves,” said Ross-Zuj, who noted that in the closed meeting council discussed what chances of success it might have opposing wind farms. She would not say more than that about the closed session, but added staff and the planning department are now working on it.

Ross-Zuj said the issue came up at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference last week, and right after much preparation and talking to Minister of Environment John Gerretsen, Premier Dalton McGuinty the next day moved Gerretsen and put Perth Wellington MPP John Wilkinson in that portfolio.

Ross-Zuj called that “A big kick to us.”’

My reading comprehension is off today -
      Us? – Us? – Us?

Ms Ross-Zuj said the provincial attitude is if municipalities try to pass any bylaws to block turbines then “We will repeal your laws.”
Mr Pickfield has given his opinion and this is not a concensus legal opinion but his opinion does need careful consideration. His opinion makes it quite clear just how many rights have been removed from the people and what could result if councils try to take action against this fraud being imposed upon them and the people.
There are those not only in North America but around the world who have been willing to remove the rights of the people by hiding behind climate change inorder to line their pockets with money. Also many others have lined up along with these people to cash in on these rackets in one way or another.

Meetings behind closed doors and information to be sent to all municipal staff in Ontario just more of the same old, same old! It’s unelected staff, at all levels of government who have been a major part of the present problems! Who do you think drew up the Green Energy Act and who do you think are keeping an eye on the 75 cents in every $dollar that will be creamed off the top of our ‘Green’ taxes before the rest goes to the wind energy companies!!!!
I elected a Council to take care of my best interests and the sooner they start taking back real control from their unelected staff the better!
There should be absolutely no closed door meetings with regard to any IWT project in Ontario.
This is far too big a disaster for any Council to keep anything from their rural communities.

It’s also when the industry rep come into a municipality and visit councilors at home that really bothers me. That’s when a councilor who wanted a moratorium 2 weeks later changes his mind and says they are beautiful and calming, happened in Essex 2008

  7. Ken says:

I am sorry to say that Mr Pickfield and the rest of Wellington County council where painfully quiet on the matter while we where fighting Nextera.here in Mapleton. Now that constuction has started on 10 turbines, they make some noise. Whats up with that?

  8. barbara says:

Right, does anyone know of any bullying tactics that have been used here in Ontario to get people to change their minds?
