Re: Notice to Stakeholders – Health Canada Wind Turbine Noise and Health Study
The purpose of this message is to request an extension for the Health Canada Wind Turbine Noise and Health Study comment period and to request a face to face consultation, to be held during the consultation period, with the study design committee.

I am providing the public with a copy of this request. The proposed study is a significant initiative for those currently reporting adverse health effects; for those expecting industrial wind energy facilities in their local communities; and for the international community of researchers and other stakeholders.

The announcement states: “The draft methodology is open for comment starting July 10, 2012 until August 08, 2012.”

Based on the complexity of this topic and the timing of the release of the announcement, I request that the comment period be extended to a three month period from July 10, 2012 to October 12, 2012. I note that many international experts and others are away on vacation and may not have the opportunity to provide comments. As well, this is a complex topic and an appropriate timeline is needed to reflect this.

Subsequent to a meeting held April 25, 2012 held with senior officials and several Members of Parliament, I submitted on request, a Draft Proposal Researching Human Health and Industrial Wind Turbines: A Dose Response Relationship (Draft Proposal). The Draft Proposal urged that prior to release of the public consultation, subject experts with published research on industrial wind turbines, and other researchers be included to assist with the design of the research, and that consultation with those reporting adverse health effects be initiated.
