Dr. McMurtry- Health Can. should NOT do the IWT study; CIHR should – please listen

CBC Radio Interview with Dr. Mc Murtry
Dr. Mc Murtry’s comment on the Wind Turbine Syndrome blog
1. Good news the research IS needed and we (I) have been asking for 4 years.
2. The need for research acknowledges there are knowledge gaps and therefore a moratorium on construction of IWT is required until we can develop evidence-based guidelines. Currently the evidence does not exist as to how to protect human health other than large setbacks (2-10 km depending on the size and number of turbines).
3. Health Canada is NOT the agency to be doing the research. They are regulatory and have very limited research capacity. Furthermore they are on record as supporting wind energy. This is too important a question to be addressed by science bureaucrats.

The research should be conducted by CIHR (Canadian Institutes of Health Research) which is the top health research agency in Canada. BTW they also report to the Minister of Health Aglukkaq.

In the case of IWTs the federal government is not a nuetral party. IWTs have been politically supported as well as financially supported by the feds.

    • Peter says:

That was a while back though, right?
I think alot of people supported the idea until ’0h *hit! hit the fan’

  2. Sparky says:

I totally agree with Dr. McMurtry.. Why would anyone trust ba federal gov’t agency that supports wind power.. The results will be absolutely biased….It can’t be any other way.. Let the CIHR do it…and yes a complete moratorium on IWT’s until the results of the CIHR are published….

Is there a problem/issue why Canadian Institutes of health Research –
cannot conduct the research health study?

It makes perfectly good sense. Doesn’t it?

Dave acting intelligent – Kill economy speech!

Uploaded by nzgreenparty on Nov 17, 2010
Dr David Suzuki gave the keynote speech to a Sustainable Economic Conference hosted by the Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand at Parliament.

This speech set the whole tone for the conference; smart economic solutions that can improve quality of life and move the focus away from growth.

Seems to be working in Ontario!
    Agenda 21 – Smart Growth – Dave’s dream

  5. Andrew Watts says:

Well! I guess Suzuki is succeeding beyond his wildest dreams by supporting the industrial wind and solar agendas! As the rest of the world(including New Zealand) is fast learning, throwing billions of tax dollars at these failing corporate industries is a great way to destroy any economy.
He’s no more an economist than he is a scientist, merely a self-important and delusional environmentalist activist. You do have to hand it to him though, he has no problem publicly attacking his own country when he is abroad………
    Andrew Watts

  6. Just a word of advise here …………………be very careful in accepting anything from anyone WITHOUT researching it first…………….sounds like the CHIR is a great bet for the research?……….do some digging and you will see that this agency is so aligned with the United Nations and various agencies and agendas promoted by the U.N. that it could be like the “wolf in charge of the hen house”!…………………….Don’t be jumping from the frying pan into the fire here…….remember, the only ones WE can trust any more to be honest is US!

  7. Andrew Watts says:

Whilst it is great that Dr.McMurtry made those comments which can only add to all the growing negative publicity that McGuinty’s government continue to ignore, I think Dr.McMurtry really answers his own question.
Does anyone doubt that whatever conclusions Health Canada reach it will not attempt to stop McGuinty’s or any other province’s ‘Green Agenda’? Why else would the federal government give the job to an agency totally unsuited to such a study?
Anyway two years is already too late for far too many rural communities and the sheer and additional environmental and human damage that will inevitably have been done with just two more years of both wind and solar projects will make an already irreversible disaster even worse.
A moratorium now is the only way to justify this study regardless of its conclusions.
    Andrew Watts

  8. jack says:

In my opinion, it’s not who should be doing this health study, just that one gets done. The question of which Government Agency is best suited or if it’s even a private company is immaterial. It’s already two or three too late and if it starts today is at least two years from issuing any results. The big issue to me is whether one can be done without any bias. The Wind Industry has a lot of influence around the world and has many powerful lobby groups. I’m not saying it can’t be done, but it would be a stretch to remain completely unprejudiced throughout the process. I agree, that no matter who does the study or what the final result would be, there needs to be an immediate moratorium on further development of IWTs.

The Liberal government still refuses to acknowledge the reported health problems.

“John Gerretsen, who now serves as the province’s attorney general, was serving as the environmental minister when wind farms first appeared in Ontario, including those dotting Wolfe Island.

“If the federal government wants to do a study, I’m not going to disagree with that in the sense that it’s entirely up to them,” the senior cabinet minister said Friday.

“But I think the evidence is pretty conclusive, not only here in Ontario, but elsewhere in the world as well, that, provided you have a minimum distance or setback from non-participating residents, there are no adverse health effects.”

Ontario regulations call for a setback of 550 metres, which is a greater distance, Gerretsen said, than is required in Europe.
“We did a number of studies and a number of literature reviews as well, experiences elsewhere in the world, and came to the conclusion, as did the medical officer of health of the province of Ontario, who did a very extensive study as well, that there are no health effects,” he said.”

    • Gerretson is an arrogant and mean minded person who is as responsible for people’s misery and loss of homes as much as the Wind Industry and McGuinty…………….he should be ignored as a very biased individual who cares not for anyone but the ones who have unleashed this Scam on an uninformed public!

Puke Bucket ready – a fan of climate change

It appears John G. is a huge fan of ‘sustainable development’ –
      and, all the other goodies
that go along with the plan…………..now we know!

John guided the implementation of the province’s climate change action plan. In addition to historic investments in public transit and phasing out coal-fired electricity generation by 2014, a key component of this plan includes the development of a cap-and-trade program. Cap-and-trade legislation to allow Ontario to link to other systems in North America and abroad was passed by the Ontario Legislature in December 2009.

      A word from – Mr. Strong –

The long-time adviser to Liberal prime ministers slammed Prime Minister Stephen Harper for playing down the threat from climate change and failing to take decisive action.

“Our Prime Minister is a very intelligent person, and what is really disappointing is that he allows his intelligence to be over-ridden by his ideology. And this is a major example of that.”

Spread a little love – my way!

      • barbara says:

It’s Maurice Strong that allows his intelligence to be over-ridden by ideology. Is this fellow now an agent of the Chinese government? Does he really believe that Canada should become a dictatorship like China is? If so then he should remain in China and not come here.

      Re: Climate Change/ Agenda 21 – Sustainable Development/Smart Growth

Why environmentalists, and the opposition parties
      dislike Stephen Harper!

Last Updated: Wednesday, November 17, 2010
Prime Minister Stephen Harper has defended Tory senators who voted down a climate change bill ahead of an upcoming United Nations meeting on the issue in Mexico.

Harper, in responding to a query from NDP Leader Jack Layton in question period Wednesday in Ottawa, said Conservatives have been consistent and clear in their opposition to Bill C-311, which the prime minister called “a completely irresponsible bill.”

“It sets irresponsible targets, doesn’t lay out any measure of achieving them other than … by shutting down sections of the Canadian economy and throwing hundreds of thousands and possibly millions of people out of work,” Harper said. “Of course, we will never support such legislation.”

So – the question still remains…………
      Why are
      @ least 47 municipalities supporting Climate Change/Agenda 21?

  11. barbara says:

The present British Prime Minister’s father-in-law hosts IWTs on his land and makes money off from them. Would anyone expect that many faults would be found in having IWTs in the UK? Any health problems associated with them?

The Union of Concerned Scientists has an annual contest for cartoons on politics and science, etc. This one seems to capture Dr. McMurtry’s fears: http://www.ucsusa.org/assets/images/si/best-of-science-idol/web-March.jpg

    • Marty says:

It’s a great cartoon…too bad it comes from a group that has gone out of their way to squelch any attempt to present scientific information that runs counter to their glowbull warming dogma.
