Protestors against wind turbines showing determination

By INGRID WILLEMSEN, Lambton Shield
You could hear a pin drop as over 400 concerned citizens congregated at the Camlachie Community Centre east of Sarnia on Tuesday. Guest speakers affected by wind turbines made emotional presentations detailing health concerns and significant property devaluations. The meeting hosted by W.A.I.T.-PW (We’re Against Industrial Turbines—Plympton-Wyoming) was organized to educate residents of the massive wind turbine project coming to their community.

This Suncor-owned project “Cedar Point” consists of 62 of what may be the world’s highest turbines (up to 800 ft.) that organize of the protest say will litter the pristine countryside. Another turbine concentration called the Jericho Project consists of 92 turbines that will overlap this same area with many more planned.

Mayor Lonny Napper and Conservative MPP Bob Bailey were also at the meeting where they explained how council recently passed tough new rules on setbacks which means how close wind turbines can be from any non-participating landowner or home.  The Green Energy Act calls for a 550 meter setback, while the Town of Plympton-Wyoming has increased this to  2,000 meters.

Lawsuits questioning property values and health concerns have been threatening many turbine projects across Ontario and beyond. Nikki Horton, a land owner in the Chatham-Kent area, surrounded by dozens of industrial turbines spoke on the ill health effects they have had in their family. Bill Palmer a retired sound engineer from Port Elgin-Paisley also spoke about the more than six years of studies he has performed around the world on wind turbines. Read article

800′ Turbines eh? That should fit in nicely in the landscape! I’m sure there are already a significant number of structures that size in Lambton County!! They’ll hardly be noticed…. at least from Queens Park!

    • DoNoHarm says:

“Suncor-owned project “Cedar Point” consists of 62 of what may be the world’s highest turbines (up to 800 ft.)”

Now I’ve heard everything – 800 ft industrial turbines, being approx. 50% higher than the 490 ft. turbines slated for Huron County. Suncor must think they’re dealing with backward rural folk who will let this happen without a fight! Imagine how far an 800′ turbine could throw ice – & what about a wind storm breaking a blade, which we know can be carried over 4,000 ft. from a turbine half this height.

But poeple still won’t come out in public with boycott Petro-Canada signs. Rural Ontarians have a right to exercise their freedom of speech.

i can tell you one thing that these capital sucking corporations will have there hands tied in this area as we will block the construction crews from even entering the job sites if they continue to try and harm this community. We are sick and tired of these parasites calling the shots without our con-scent which they do not have or will ever have. This is OUR community not some fictional greedy profit taking ego maniac destructive company with hoards of extra cash looking to go fake green. Cheers and no worries we will prevail

    • JOHN E FOREMAN says:

To Remedy…..Surely you wouldn’t be threatening “civil disobedience” would you?? Remember….. these companies DO have our consent. They got it when Ontarians re-elected the Ontario Liberals and put their faith in our future in Dalton McGuinty’s hands! Sad but true! The “Construction Crews” of which you speak may, very well, be your neighbours. BAD neighbours I’ll admit. But it’s the Suncors, the Samsungs, the Nexteras, the Capital Powers, the Pattern Energies etc. as well as the Ontario Liberals and NDP that are the enemy! …. and don’t leave out our own Ministry of the Environment!!

      • barbara says:

IWT construction crews go from site to site and only a few locals are hired to fill in what the construction crews don’t do like delivering the cement for the pads.

      • remedy says:

Are you replying me as a corporate citizen or a man? A very big difference and do not bother giving me a speech that there is no difference. As a man I do not consent but if I was a corporate citizen then you are right that I did consent as they have authority over me. I did not consent to be tortured by wind turbines or my fellow man and would gladly help out as a peaceful man and properly give them remedy before I do it so there is a peaceful way out of it . As you well know there is abundant prove with copies of reports of people being harmed by these turbines and enough warnings to this dictator to stop these projects until it is proven properly. These criminals still go on with this and they have plenty of remedy to stop this as they are suppose be of service to us not harm us. The courts so far has been disabled to help us . Simple put turbines do harm us.Would you not help others from being harmed or would you just stand there and watch them continuing this harm when justice is no where to be found? ;;This is criminal what they are doing and what I do is peaceful and in my opinion it is my right.

An average of almost 200 people in Stoke-on-Trent die each year as a result of cold weather. Another energy poverty article from the UK.
    http://www.thisisstaffordshire.co.uk/Winter-deaths-action-planned/story-16635594-detail/story.html
The present government here/Ont. has been the beneficiary of a mild 2011 summer followed by a mild 2011-12 winter. So the Hydro rates increases during this time period did not squeeze people here too much yet. But there will be the AC bills to be paid for this summer.

    • Petra says:

Just unintended consequences, Barb. Gotta go green at any cost-even if the poor and economically disadvantaged are hit the hardest.

    • DoNoHarm says:

200 people die in Stock-on-Trent in England each year from cold weather due to energy poverty. This is what that slithering reptile McTurbine is deliberately lining us up for too, since our typical Ontario winters are much colder, & our summers much hotter.

‘[excerpt] LONDON, Aug. 8 (UPI) — British Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg says renewable energy will remain a key part of the country’s energy policy despite reports of government infighting.

Clegg, appearing Monday at an energy conference in London, declared the renewable energy sector “is vital to encouraging investment” in Britain and revealed $156 million in funding to help attract backing for energy efficiency projects.

“The U.K. is the sixth-largest market in low-carbon goods and environmental services and this coalition government is unreservedly committed to helping our low carbon sector thrive,” Clegg said. “We seek nothing less than a clean, green, low carbon economy.”‘

        WWF-UK’s ‘hot shot’ – Nick Molho ………….sends
        Warning! Warning!
        Ugh!

‘[excerpt] Clegg’s speech brought praise from Nick Molho, head of energy policy at WWF-UK.

“It’s heartening to hear a senior member of the government give such unequivocal support for the green economy, although Nick Clegg’s suggestion that there’s no division in the coalition over the issue is slightly difficult to believe.”

But, Molho warned, the “big test” of the government’s commitment will come this fall when it will need to deliver on commitments to decarbonize the energy sector by 2030.

“What we really need to see now is unity within the government and leadership from the top,” he said.’

    Note to “Remedy”
Not really sure what part of my comment you found offensive. Contrary to how my words may have come across to you, I, too, am opposed to IWTs and have been “in this fight” since 2007! Believe me I am inclined to “pull out all the stops” as well and to do all, and I do mean ALL, I can do to stop this insanity including what you mentioned in your first comment. My wife and I will be testifying in the upcoming ERT hearing re: the Samsung “Grand Renewable Energy Park” coming up next month here in Haldimand County. So…. We’re NOT just “standing by and watching”. Believe me, I am NOT “giving you a speech”. I was assuming we were both on the same side! You are, in effect, “preaching to the choir”! I just find it repugnant that any of us, including myself, would feel forced to resort to any tactic that would, in any way, detract, or draw attention away, from the validity and sensibility of our cause whether it be on a local or province-wide basis. I’m still hopeful that common sense will prevail! If it doesn’t???? Well….

P.S. I didn’t vote for McGuinty either and he does NOT have my consent “as a man”!!

    • barbara says:

The use of IWTs is not based on common sense so wouldn’t expect common sense to prevail here at least on the part of the promoters of this scam.
Promoters of IWTs are in one way or another cashing in on this scam and will hold on as long as possible.

    • remedy says:

Absolutely no offence taken,John. i drum to a different beat. i do wish you all the best in the Haldimand case.

Remember Bugs Bunny — and his fellow Cartoon Characters? It seems they were always being caught up in circumstances far beyond their power to control. They were swept up in webs created by the Rich and Powerful without regard to the rights — however small and insignificant — and their feelings — however low brow and crass. We are talking about “dumb” animals here — right? — so why be concerned about how you treat them. Sometimes though, the “dumb animals” won against these powerful forces of corruption and evil.

This was posted on WUWT in another context:

Now maybe, just maybe, somebody here will be the Hero Bugs Bunny that turns the evil weapon of destruction against it’s creator(s) — we can only hope.

That’s all folks and good night. May this farce be with you no longer!

Bugs, wherever you are … We need you!

Do ya think that some of these financial dealings going on in the world’s renewables industries just might wake up some in the Niagara region? Huh?

    • jack says:

Nope! First they’d need to understand it, if that even possible and then they’d still have that Liberal bottomless pit of tax monies for a safety net but I’m sure Dwight has got a good handle on her though. ‘[excerpt] The Sustainable Brant group wants in. According to the group’s blog, the “residents [involved] are committed to supporting local food and healthy communities, fostering rural/urban planning, protecting prime farmland and preventing rural sprawl.”

While waiting for an official review of the Greenbelt, expected in 2015, Sustainable Brant has hardly been resting on its laurels, continuing to search for ways to protect farmland in Brant.

Just this week, a public information meeting was held at the Mt. Pleasant Community Centre, alerting residents to concerns about urban sprawl.

But there’s more. The group has a petition circulating to include Brant in the Greenbelt, which will be forwarded to the provincial Ministry of Municipal of Affairs and Housing.

“That petition was tabled by County of Brant council,” says Ella Haley, Sustainable Brant’s executive director. “By drawing a line with the Greenbelt at the Brant border, the Ontario government actually created a scenario for the farmland grab that we see occurring in Brant, for land bankers with offshore investors and for developers.”

Haley said her group is fighting back, while the wait continues.

“We are providing a set of tools to help create a win-win situation for farmers,” she says. “These tools include the formation of a conservancy – the Langford Conservancy – and the use of community bonds to raise money to purchase farmland, plus the fostering of organic farmer co-operatives on protected land.

“In essence, a conservancy can create its own protected area within Brant,” she says. “Farmers can also place conservation easements on their farms. This provides them with great tax savings, and enables them to put on title that the land can never be developed.

“Farmers still own the land and can sell it. And the tax savings enables farmers to sell to new farmers for a reduced price.”’

Finally farmers in the loop – get it – Greenbelt Cabal sham

‘[excerpt] Vos says that the Greenbelt vision doesn’t necessarily represent reality.

‘[excerpt] For the record, a group calling itself Sustainable Brant has nothing at all to do with the Brant County Federation of Agriculture

We point that out because the most recent Green Matters column dealt with Sustainable Brant’s attempts to lobby for the county’s inclusion in The Greenbelt.

Sustainable Brant, by the way, bills itself as a group of residents from Brant County “committed to supporting local food and healthy communities, fostering integrated rural/urban planning, protecting prime farmland and preventing urban sprawl.”’
