By Catherine Thompson, Bayshore Broadcasting More than a hundred vehicles and as many as three hundred people took part in a wind turbine protest parade and rally in Clearview Township on Thursday. The day started with a news conference at the Collingwood Regional Airport where the focus was safety concerns to air traffic.
Eight 500 foot wind turbines are planned and four of them would be close to the airport. Airport officials are concerned they may have to spend 50 thousand dollars to change landing procedures if the wind turbine development goes through. Following the news conference, protestors gathered at Clearview Nurseries on County Road 91 in Clearview Township, near where the turbines would go.
Organizers say the turnout was pretty much the same as the rally held a year ago. A parade of farm vehicles, school buses and many other forms of transportation arrived at the WPD Canada information meeting at the Stayner Community Centre after about an hour and a half.
There were effigies of Andrea Horvath representing all NDP MPPs and also one of Dalton McGuinty with a sign under it that read, “Stop the turbines now. Liberal MPPs destroy rural Ontario communities.” read article

Bring out the effigies! Let visitors and tourists to rural Ontario view them this holiday weekend.
It was a great Rally! A sea of green shirts, balloons, hay wagons, tractors and walkers, even some people on bicycles. The report does not mention the rousing speeches made by 3 MPP’s Bill Walker, Jim Wilson and Lisa Thompson. Even a retired MPP Bill Murdoch was in attendance. We were honoured to have Dale Goldhawk there and make a strong speech as well. Vic Fedelli, the PC Energy Critic gingerly took the stage and told us we are not alone and to not give up. Keep pushing and writing the Liberals was the advice of the day.
Many folks did not bother to go inside the arena to see the propaganda boards or hear the self promotion of their products from hell.
I mention that no food buffet was served as at the 1st meeting??? I suppose WPD has to save up to settle their 22 lawsuits! OR perhaps they heard I would toss the tables! ” Gee sorry we are ruining your life, here… have some queshe and a pickle. Now then doesn’t that feel better? ”
BTW: Happy 200 year anniversary of Sir Issac Brock who took a bullet in the battle of Queenston Heights as he led us to victory when those that wanted to force their way of life on us invaded Canadian shores. I guess folks were more patriotic back in those days…pity.
What kind of rally was this?
I’m confused by the picture:
Save Canada – Stop Dictatorship
…………obviously no one noticed the – Stephen Harper hater.
That’s just what we want to see in Ontario.
Ugh!
You seem to have it very confused. No federal issues at our rally..it was the 2nd and final open house for wpd. This lady obviously thinks the Green Energy Act is a dictatorship and she is right. Perhaps she thinks Harper cn intervene and save us from this Liberal tyranny under Mcguinty’s reign of maddness!
She prpobably thinks she is making a plea for Harper to intervene and stop this madness by the McGuinty liberals. Lots of new people on board now just learning how the system works.
Hey mcguintylies,
The pic is disappointing! The lady has it all wrong.
It’s not about Harper!
The reality is:
Harper and the conservatives have been maneuvering the
Liberal ‘green cabal’
held up by
the Unions, and the Chamber of Commerce -
and of course
@ the local level – by councils
What should the conservatives do –
when (some) citizens support ‘saving the planet’ – ?
It’s killing the economy!
Draining tax dollars – endless sham
Hey FT,
It reminds me of the time, many moons ago, I watched a woman paying for her goods at the cash register, all the while blaming Pierre Trudeau for that awful provincial sales tax.
Don’t these people know that anything and everything that is wrong with this world is Mike Harris’s fault.
BTW, how’s that short skirt working out?
There are issues with wind turbines across the country, for example in Quebec and Nova Scotia. Could somebody please explain why the Federal government can’t impose a moratorium on wind construction while awaiting the results of their health study? This isn’t just an Ontario Energy issue; it’s a Canadian Health issue.
OWR, of course we would all like to see Harper put a moratorium on IWT installations right across the country.
However, if the Prime Minister does just that, then the person holding the sign would, according to some people, be imparting the correct information: Harper is a dictator for imposing his will on all the provinces.
Could you imagine the outcry from the Liberal and NDP provinces and especially Quebec? The result could be detrimental to the overall cause.
Some will say the Prime Minister’s job is to do the “right thing” regardless of what the other levels of government have to say about the matter.
Of course, they would be correct, but some of the provinces and their citizens may just take exception to the federal directive and those that previously sat on the IWT fence may now decide to cross over to the “wrong” side.
So, having Harper do the right thing may, in the long run, do more harm than good.
Kudos to this lady! She is out and protesting and trying to get the same results we all are. Way too many people are content to roll over and let the government steam roll us.
Hey lynn,
Kudos to this lady?
What message is she trying to get out?
Trying to get the same results we are?
Sorry – I’m with Harper – not ‘her’ message!
Hey ScepticalGord,
I’m sitting on the patio – waiting for my
Tide’s:
5 Step ‘Strange Bedfellows’ ……Manuel
Tracking # says it’s stuck @ Buffalo customs
Ugh!
I think I’m getting it – maybe
The Tides Canada short – Strange Bedfellows
says,
Simply because I have ‘no’ choice……….
“We work with diverse groups
to solve social and
environmental problems
of our time”
Gee – hopefully I’ll understand – soon!
No Tides yet? Try the MacArthur Foundation.
I’ve tried………..
they’re busy – rumour has it!………..
they’re going to the movies –
with the Obama’s chef.
I’ll try again – later
Since IWT projects are power plants but not nuclear, the federal government may not have jurisdiction under these circumstances. But if the grid they are on hooks into the US power grid is this justification? Could lead to power disruptions in both countries?
Her sign does not mention Harper so anything else about the sign is speculation.
The federal government does contibute money for heath care to the provinces. If IWTs prove to cause health problems which then require/use federal money to deal with these health isues then this is also a federal issue.
IWTs cause health issues but to get this established at the federal level is another matter.
Re: Alice in Wonderland ‘syndrome’
The distorted thinkers –
hiding behind closed doors – signing energy deals –
maybe suffer from fog like thoughts – not based on reality.
Are you ‘brain dead’ Mr. Energy Minister?
Bump up – please!
‘[excerpt] For starters, no renewable energy project is subject to a hearing process. While there is a right of appeal to the Environmental Review Tribunal on limited grounds, many projects initiated before the Green Energy Act came into force are governed by transitional rules that deny even this option, seriously undermining precepts of transparency and accountability.
Next, even within the Ministry of Energy, where the director and minister have statutory discretion to order elevated or individual assessments for this class of project, this discretion, to the best of my knowledge, has never been exercised in the case of wind turbine projects (despite numerous requests), suggesting that the existence of the discretion is largely a dead letter.’

Fourth reason, “the environmental screening processses are proponent-driven self-assessment processes”
Situations such as this invite corruption and/or fraud.
It’s all very orderly:
A near catastrophic event – awaits – brownouts/blackouts
if we don’t ‘fast-track’ – corporate cronyism.
Earth Hour – learn to live in the dark!
Oh yeah – make it romantic!
We owe it to the planet!
I forgot!
What’s really weird?
Earth Day is on Lenin’s birthday
Of course – it is all coincidence.
Light up – the candles – get romantic
Getting ready – for the planet – 2013
http://www.earthhour.org/
Fourth reason, “In other words the process is tantamount to students being invited to grade their own papers”
This process provides an opportunity to CHEAT!
The Green Energy and Green Economy Act (Bill 150) -
was designed around – battling – Climate Change.
…….then you have the ‘spin offs’ – the discreet ‘green’
zillions of ‘golden opportunities’
all paid for ‘with tax dollars’
Ontario is bankrupt – celebrate!
The renewable energy contracts and any and all paper work associated with them needs to be gone through to see if everything is in proper order and all work related to these projects is in proper order/done correctly. Nothing was left out as well.
Complaints need to be looked at as there could be corruption and/or fraud involved there as well.
