Wind farms will create more carbon dioxide, say scientists

The finding, which threatens the entire rationale of the onshore wind farm industry, will be made by Scottish government-funded researchers who devised the standard method used by developers to calculate “carbon payback time” for wind farms on peat soils. Wind farms are typically built on upland sites, where peat soil is common. In Scotland alone, two thirds of all planned onshore wind development is on peatland. England and Wales also have large numbers of current or proposed peatland wind farms.

But peat is also a massive store of carbon, described as Europe’s equivalent of the tropical rainforest. Peat bogs contain and absorb carbon in the same way as trees and plants — but in much higher quantities. British peatland stores at least 3.2 billion tons of carbon, making it by far the country’s most important carbon sink and among the most important in the world.

Wind farms, and the miles of new roads and tracks needed to service them, damage or destroy the peat and cause significant loss of carbon to the atmosphere, where it contributes to climate change. Read article

  1. It’s about time that more scientists started to come forward and reveal the truth about this windscam, the lies that the wind industry tells, and the lack of efficiency of this energy form. We are wasting our time and money. They say they cannot afford to place these safely away from communities, then obviously, it is not feasible, and should have never been approved. No studies were ever done to assure that the enormous cost of the endeavor would reap any benefits. It is not worth the money or trouble it is causing under the present system, and they have no solutions to fix these problems. Stop wasting time and money…..move on to a better form of energy, it can be done. The money we have wasted on Greed energy could finance the research to promote other forms of clean energy as well as a huge push on conservation. Stop the insanity before it’s too late.

    • How can scientists get government grants to prove that IWTs don’t work? Besides the technology used in IWTs is horse-and-buggy and this science was already done a very long time ago.
Maybe the only thing new are the lubricants used in IWTs which do work much better than lard worked as a lubricant. Lard will freeze.
The only way conservation will work is to have people give up much of the modern technology they enjoy.

      • The IWT production data is also known. So why spend more money on research?

  2. The Rothschild financed wind turbines can’t be stopped! Unfortunately. The Rothschilds are not mentioned at Forbes Magazine as the richest — they are trillionaires — the queen is 33 times a trillionaire but the Rothschilds are around 300 trillion$.
