Ontario failing like Europe

Kathleen Wynne’s green energy policies are setting the stage for a ‘massacre’ of our economy

If you want to see the future of the Ontario economy under Premier Kathleen Wynne’s green energy plan, you don’t have to look far.

Look at Europe, because we’re starting to experience what’s happening there, as rising electricity prices driven by the high cost of renewable energy gut its manufacturing sector.

“We face a systemic industrial massacre,” Antonio Tajani, European Commissioner for Industry, recently told the Daily Telegraph, “I am in favour of a green agenda, but we can’t be religious about this. We need a new energy policy. We have to stop pretending, because we can’t sacrifice Europe’s industry for climate goals that are not realistic and are not being enforced worldwide.” Read article

  2. When enough jobs are lost in Ontario the “green” fantasy will be gone. and the majority of the job losses will be in urban areas
Then property values will begin to fall and public sector jobs will be cut as tax revenues decline.

There are homes in Detroit still in good condition that can be bought for ~ $10,000 and these same houses would bring from $250,000 – $450,000 in Toronto. A $1 million home there can be had for $100,000.
This is the kind of economic devastation that huge job losses cause.

    • it will be interesting to see how this information will be bent and twisted to cover their tracks.

    • These same IPCC dickheads are now not only
claiming a pause in ‘global warming’, but we
are in fact heading for a cooling period until
      mid century.

      • That’s why we need all these wind turbines — to cool the plant.

        Ice cubes anyone?

  3. Gee that’s odd. While attending the AMO convention in Ottawa recently with my husband, Premier Kathleen Wynne who was there to address the municipalities, approached me in the lobby to shake my hand. I felt this was an opportunity to ask her some questions about our energy policy. I asked her if she was aware that subsidies for wind and solar were being slashed in Europe and in particular, Germany. She answered: ” Well of course they are, the prices have come down just as the industry said they would.” This answer shocked me as I have been reading reports like the one above for weeks now. Could it be that Premier Wynne is that out of touch with the reality of the situation? Have her advisors lied to her so that she passes the lie forward. Could she really believe that energy prices have dropped in Europe? If she just gave me this glib answer to appease me , I am very disappointed . It is one thing to tow the party line so as to keep her job but to out and out lie is disgraceful. I would like to have a explanation from her. Perhaps if someone such as Christina Blizzard were to ask the same question, our Premier would have to give a more honest answer. I also asked her if she would cancel existing contracts and she stated that she can not because Ontario would be sued for millions. I told her that millions would seem cheap compared to the billions we will be wasting on expensive and inefficient wind and solar power. Surely she has the power to call for a moratorium until such a time as wind turbines can be safely placed away from family homes. Also since it appears that wind turbines have not been able to reach the capacity of output that they claimed they could ( anywhere in the world ) that these contracts could be rendered null and void for not living up to their part of the contract. In fact, the industry has not lived up to many of their promises. The wind turbines where touted as being safe, yet some have caught on fire or flung ice great distances. Many are out of compliance and are not as “quiet as a refrigerator ! ” The ones put up to date have not been tested for infrasound or low frequency vibration which has caused families to flea their homes.
I speculate that most of the public have no idea of the destruction to communities, clusters of these monster generators do. With thousands of wind turbines waiting for approval to be erected in Ontario this does seem shear madness.

      Maybe – Premiere ‘Social Justice’ – should have a rethink;
we Canadians know we are a ‘Free Nation’ –
and, we would like to keep it that way.

What a stupid question. I hate to put it that way… but what does the evidence say?

    • energy prices are down slightly..still at nose bleed levels. read elsewhere this was due to summer lull and people on vacation.

      BUT………
“The cost of subsidies for renewable energy has more than doubled since 2010, to 20.4 billion euros in 2013…Subsidies are fixed for 20 years and even if a newly elected government changes future support levels for wind and solar generation, the bill will be more than 20 billion euros until 2030…Chancellor Angela Merkel is seeking a third term as Germany’s leader in Sept. 22 elections. She has pledged to reform support for renewable energy as priority grid access and subsidies for solar and wind have sent wholesale power contracts to record-low levels while boosting consumer costs…VAT and excise tax on power prices in Germany are among the highest in Europe.”

      http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-09-17/german-vote-won-t-cut-20-billion-euro-renewables-bill-bnef-says.html

conventional power producers have to bid in an open market vs. wind which gets priority along with generous subsidy. wholesale market prices don’t tell the whole story. they don’t reflect green subsidy that is added to utility bills.

McWynnty is blowing wind. In Ontario “””in 2010, the Ontario Energy Board, predicted “a typical household’s annual electricity bill will increase by about $570, or 46%, from about $1,250 in 2009 to more than $1,820 by 2014. More than half of this increase would be because of renewable energy contracts.”””

    • Is it a lie? Does one not need to know and comprehend the truth to be able to lie? Out of touch with reality would make the most sense.

I go with the completely unaware clueless Premier explanation. To be able to mouth that inanity meant that ot was planned and practiced. Is she really that quick on her feet?

But yes — it needs a great deal of public exposure. send an email to Ezra Levant.

I wonder if Pembina Institute is lobbying Councillors at Toronto City hall and Provincial MPPs and the Premier and the ministries. It seems like the stupid clueless type of explanation that is their greatest strength.

  5. There is no safe distance for wind Turbines, NOT GREEN, NOT CHEAP, NOT RELIABLE, and come with a very BAD side EFFECT on people and the ENVIRONMENT. there is Nothing GREEN about TURBINES. SAY NO TO WIND TURBINES.
