Turbine concerns near C-K airport

Despite months of inaction regarding eight turbines near the Chatham-Kent Municipal Airport, Chatham-Kent-Essex M-P-P Rick Nicholls says he’s confident a resolution is coming.

Nicholls admits there’s one scenario he’s worried about. “What I do not want to see is the municipal government say ‘well we have a certified airport, we’ll just decertify it, and therefore airport zoning regulations are no longer in effect,’” says Nicholls. “That’s like saying today I rob a bank and that’s against the law so I get thrown in jail. Next week the laws change and it’s okay so I guess I’m free now.”

Transport Canada asked developer GDF Suez to remove the turbines in question back in June of 2013.

  1. This clearly demonstrates the level of influence this company has in Ottawa.
    GDF-Suez is about 15% owned by the French government.

    And this is the kind of activity rural Ontarians will have to put with all the through the installation of 6,700 IWTs.

  2. As a political solution this all smacks of cronyism and conflict of interest. Mike Crawley is President of GDF SUEZ Canada Inc. Mike Crawley is also President of the Liberal Party of Canada. The McGuinty government gave the president of the Liberal Party a privative hydro contract worth $475-million at 60% higher than the current price of electricity to produce intermittent, inefficient, absurdly expensive industrial wind energy. Meanwhile, for low- and modest-income families, who have been hit by an over-20% increase in their hydro prices, we get to pay this bill. Ordinary Ontarians get hit with double-digit hydro price increases and the president of the Liberal Party gets a guaranteed $475-million contract

  3. When it comes to the global corporate affairs of GDF Suez, Mike Crawley is only a “little” guy.
    The Desmarias family and the French government are the “big” guys.

  5. Beware Chatham-Kent!!!! The municipal council and the wind companies will continue to rape C-K . Now your airport will lose its’ certification… talk about going backwards.

      Ontario, the Love affair with Wind Turbines will soon be over as the lowly citizens contemplate their foregone wealth. The consequences will live on in memory.

      Although perhaps this foray into the fruitless could be more of a Comedy of Errors on our Ship of Fools. Let me contemplate this as I consider the future of Captain Wynne.
