(Grey Highlands) – Grey Highlands Council will consider a bylaw on Monday to freeze any new permits for construction of industrial wind turbines in the municipality. It is part of the regular council meeting which begins at 5 PM.  CAO Dan Best says called the “Grey Highlands Renewable Energy Working Group” wants any proposed projects to take into account the concerns of nearby residents about any impact on their health.

Medical Officer of Health Doctor Hazel Lynn presented a report just over a year ago, that looked at various studies around the world, on the health complaints from people living near Giant wind turbines. Read article

  1. Good I hope they put a stop to this nonsense!!! – take a look what they did in Bimbrook Ontario they put some of the turbines too close to the property lines and now they have to come down!! oh well!!!!!!!!

    • Problem is Lyn, they won’t be coming down. They never do. Even those ordered removed by Transport Canada, which are too close to an airport, plus several others, are still standing and won’t be removed by the developers because that would cost them big money and the Libs will never do that to developers, their #1 buds and main concern.
They don’t follow laws in Ontario, they make them. They rule above all.

  2. The decision about the C-K airport turbines will be an important decision. Will show where the federal government stands on IWTs and safety issues.

  3. Hey Ontario!
    Election Year 2014

The apple cart upset – and, paid so well @ the local level

‘[excerpt] LOS ANGELES — A former city official who became a symbol of municipal greed was sentenced Wednesday to 12 years in prison — less than half the time it will take the nearly bankrupt Los Angeles suburb of Bell to dig itself out of the estimated $150 million in debt he left behind.

A judge also ordered former Bell city manager Robert Rizzo to make $8.8 million in restitution, but prosecutors say that only covers the money he illegally took for himself.

In all, Rizzo cost the modest city more than $150 million in legal fees and illegally collected taxes that must be repaid, said prosecutors and Bell officials.

“That resulted in borrowing that will not be paid back until 2040,” Anthony Taylor, an attorney representing the city of Bell, told Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Kathleen Kennedy.

Rizzo was arrested in 2010 after it was revealed that he was paying himself an annual salary and benefits package of $1.5 million to run a city where a quarter of the population lives below the federal poverty line. His $800,000 in wages alone was double that of the president of the United States.

His top assistant had a salary and benefits package of $564,000 and most Bell City Council members were getting about $100,000 a year. Several other top officials were paid hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Former assistant city manager Angela Spaccia was sentenced last week to nearly 12 years in prison and five former council members face as much as four years when they are sentenced later this year.

Kennedy, however, said the entire scam could be traced to Rizzo.

“Rizzo was controlling everything,” the judge said, noting he doled out millions of dollars in illegal loans to pretty much anybody who asked and raised salaries to levels the judge called “absolutely ridiculous.”

“Nobody wanted to upset the apple cart because they were being paid so well,” she added.

      Boot them out!

    • Election Year – 2014
      It’s just crazy!

‘[excerpt] CAO Dan Best says called the “Grey Highlands Renewable Energy Working Group” wants any proposed projects to take into account the concerns of nearby residents about any impact on their health.’

      And, there’s more – cha,cha,cha…….and, he sounds crazy;
      and, then what happened?

‘[excerpt] Best says the bylaw under consideration would have to be considered by any company proposing a wind farm in Grey Highlands.

However, the municipality has little say in those projects as provincial legislation would trump anything Grey Highlands does to stop new developments.

The municipality has declared itself an unwilling host for new wind farms.’

And – that’s what he said.

      Ontario’s economy – just crazy!

      • Hi Free Thinker!! – doesn’t it make one feel like they are on the 3 hour tour to Gilligan’s Island!!! – vote all the Liberal bums out this provincial election!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Douglas,
Transport Canada has the authority to remove the offending IWTs at C-K airport for safety reasons.
The reason/reasons why TC has not done so remains to be seen.
