Possible water contamination from Dufferin Wind

“This is a warning to local residents that live in Dufferin county near the 230 kV power line that the local wind company is installing. 301 poles have been installed incorrectly. They have been drilled into the water table without properly sealing them. This company has been drilling since spring and has been given until mid to end of September to mitigate the problem by MOECC Garry Tomlinson . Meanwhile there is possible water contamination to all local wells in this area. If you live anywhere near this power line you should contact your township or Scott Burns of Dufferin County for more information.”

“If you want to see this disaster start heading north on rail line starting at Holmes agrico on 3 rd line . Go through amaranth township , town of Shelburne Melanchthon township where it ends at county rd 21 and 3 rd . This area is where they have drilled through a pile of cattle manure in to the water table if you want prof of this contact Garry Tomlinson of the moecc. None of these poles are sealed from the top or bottom this allows all contaminants like herbicides pesticides oils all run from farm fields to enter into the water table.”

  1. Playing chicken – with our water.
    Business is good.

    Premier Social Justice –
compassionate to the -‘good cause’ –

    and, ‘good causes’ – ministry.

Now we need to fund this new ministry!

    Welcome to Ontario……..
    feel the compassion?

    • Building Ontario – soviet style – remember them?
      Any minute now –
      Ontario Premier Social Justice
will address the problem – with a bunch of excuses,
      and new rules!

‘[excerpt] 301 poles have been installed incorrectly. They have been drilled into the water table without properly sealing them. This company has been drilling since spring and has been given until mid to end of September to mitigate the problem by MOECC Garry Tomlinson .’

      And, shareholders? – earn better than average;
and, will be eager to hear the arguments.

      Ahhhhhhh…….hold your breath!
      okay – who pays?

    • Zooming in on the issue: farming

Cattle manure could get a farmer – into trouble.

……for interfering with the new economy!

  2. My neighbours are watching as the Dufferin Wind Power corporation gets special condideration from agencies who are SUPPOSED to be watching out for our health. As Wynne campaigned in Walkerton, using the tragedy there to boost her own end, these poles were going in across Melancthon, Dufferin Wind put huge ads in local papers and people kept trying to get help. The amazing folk in Melancthon, after being beaten down by threats of litigation, after fighting the losing ERT battle, while watching as 49 turbines surround thier home, still find it within themselves to keep fighting, this time to try to protect their drinking water source and their neighbour’s drinking water source. I hope the group who began this mess as a ‘community wind project’ even begin to understand the sacrifice of this. As the Ontario govt. pushes to turn more industrial wind turbine projects into ‘community wind projects’ by getting more to sign off on turbines going in next door, all need to look at what has happened to the last little bit of Melancthon that was still unscathed by turbines. This last little bit of Melancthon was a community ‘farm owned’ turbine project and included more being signed up than those hosting a turbine. The desperate scramble by the landowners to recoup investment leaves ALL involved at the hands of a Chinese state owned corporation for the next 45 years. Enough is enough.

    • Lorrie, this what you are up against.

      Rene Descartes:
“Man is incapable of comprehending any argument that interferes with his revenues.”

Those who stand to make money in any way off from IWTs won’t listen to any reasons against IWTs.

To them, there is always some way to fix the situation so that these schemes can continue.

  3. And let us not forget that good old Gary Tomlinson of MOE is very aware of the harm being caused by wind turbines in Melancthon and Amaranth. I don’t know how he sleeps at night.

  4. Public Health Officials? Mayor of Melancthon? Warden of Dufferin County? Where are you all? Why isn’t there a notice issued on possible drinking water contamination? What is Dufferin Wind Power’s responsibility in making sure people don’t get sick? Who is going to watch that the do-over of power line poles is done properly? If the company putting them in to begin with, can do such a lousy job, why would anyone in their right mind trust that they will make it right now ? This would be the same company that will not have to worry too much about mitigation to health problems that will come from LFN and dirty electricity, thanks to the same agencies who are telling them to seal things up and who will monitor the repairs sporadically ‘as resources allow’. I’m so furious right now, I could spit nails.

  5. Perhaps now would be the time for the first ever manure spreader [full] parade around queens park. Some thing has to happen, they can no longer spin this

  7. I don’t want to go all the way there for zero coverage and no listening again!

I think all the townships with all these projects ought to shut down the local big hwy all over the place UNTIL!!!

This is way over provincials heads when
safety is ignored and your premier has wind pompoms in hand.

  8. if we do have a problem right now is to get you water tested ASAP. the health department will send us all back the results.Lets get on it NOW!!!!

  9. Yeah, I’m very well aware of that Barbara. It means we have to go beyond short, cute answers and quotes and get mad enough to do more to make this stop. Nope I’m not interested in going to Queen’s Park again either. We have 4 years of this corruption to deal with now. I was listening to Caldwell Butler’s address to the U.S. govt hearings to impeach a president. He said that to do otherwise was, to put on record, the condoning of unfit conduct and corrupt behavior in our president. Well, urbanites in Ontario condoned the Liberal corruption and have allowed it to continue unchecked. And it doesn’t stop at wind turbines.
I’m for shutting down some roads before trying to mass at QP ever again. Again, enough is enough.

  10. I should have said we have 4 MORE years of this Liberal corruption to deal with. And I don’t want to forget to lay some blame on the PCs who couldn’t get their act together enough to win at least 1 of two elections and insisted on following their ‘leader’, Hudak. I keep saying that Hudak stepping down is the silver lining but it’s small solace as we watch our province go down the tubes for 4 more years.

    • Power-brokers deliberately kept Hudak as the ineffective leader of the Progressive Conservative party, in order to prevent interruptions to the Liberal agenda, would you agree?

He has a degree in economics [Brock] and still couldn’t explain how devastating Liberal energy policies are! Unbelievable!

And how about his wife, making all that money “monitoring media” for those would be-recklessly polluting gas plant perpetrators!

    • There are PCs making money off from renewables as well and they have influence in the PC party.

Someone with a safe PC seat would have been better.

However, he did sacrifice himself to try to do something for rural Ontario. Neither the Liberals nor the NDP offered to sacrifice themselves for rural Ontario.

    • Speaking of Corruption in the PC party:
Bill Davis’s family’s islands and cottages are located at Honey Harbour, Georgian Bay.
      Don’t see any IWTs there.
And Bill Davis endorsed Dalton McGuinty in 2011.

  11. Watch as Ontario Place (in Toronto) becomes a showpiece, as public transit (in Toronto) gets a nice financial infusion, watch as the province of Toronto (formerly the Province of Ontario, manufacturing engine for Canada) becomes even more the child to spoil under the unchecked Liberal agenda. Watch how the press covers the Liberal-friendly mayoral(in Toronto) candidates.

  12. One more comment, tehn I have to go and attend meetings and pick up printing and deliver to post offices for another issue nearby, the permanent closure of Simcoe County Road 91 at Duntroon, since the County decided it was okay to give the access portion of the road to an aggregate company rather than leave it for the public to use, but that’s another tangent.

At 10:00am, August 16th, in Harriston (look on the map) we are holding a meeting to look at ways to fight industrial wind turbines apart from storming around with signs. This meeting is not open for a bitch session, it is open to concrete ideas from people ready to help pull the line and do the work to stop this mess. Let me know if you are interested in attending by emailing lpcgillis@bmts.com

  13. Definitely a good idea to test well water now, but contamination can happen over months and months of seepage into the aquifer. People need to test water for 2 years every month and watch for bacteria levels increasing. I don’t believe basic water testing covers chemical contaminant but I could be wrong. BOTTOM LINE is that no one should even have to be worrying about this except that wind company gets a green light even when proper study and procedure is not being followed.

  14. Most thinking people thought that presenting valid reasons as to why IWTs should not be installed would solve this problem but the money to be made from IWTs can’t be overcome by reasoning.

  16. I beleive this is wrote into many wind project draft papers on many topics of, well water, shadow flicker, static tv,radio, phone interference.

“It’s highly localized” meaning= who gives a crap about the rural residents! It’s not the GTA.

And oh you have to come up with a way to prove any of that at your expense of course.

    Stacked deck for sure.

  17. I noticed the poles laying in the ditch in another project have the lower part black on them, I dont recall ever seeing those in any of the others??? anyone have an idea on this??
