Haldimand repairing roads affected by green energy projects

Those living near Samsung’s Grand Renewable Wind project can expect to see some of the more damaged roads fixed by around mid-November. Haldimand County has received $500,000 from Samsung to go towards road repairs before winter, as staff said the company has not maintained the roads during construction.

“Some roads had deteriorated to the point where they posed a danger to the travelling public,” a staff report to council had stated. Staff wasn’t sure Samsung would be able to repair those roads before winter, and negotiated with the company to hand over $500,000 so the County could help expedite the work.

“We really had to push to get this done, but it is getting done,” said Don Boyle, Haldimand’s chief administrative officer, adding that dealing with Samsung has been a difficult process. “We should see a significant difference, and we’re holding [Samsung’s] feet to the fire.” Read article
