Farmers now wanting to opt out of wind leases

ELORA – Centre Welling­ton council’s committee of the whole heard on Monday after­noon that several farmers who signed lease agreements for wind farms near Belwood are willing to back out of them.

A delegation led by Dave Hurlburt, Laura Humphrey, Gerry Ellen and Darryl Burnet came to council to ask for its help in opposing the wind farm planned by Invenergy that sur­rounds much of Belwood and reaches into Dufferin County. They represented a group that is opposing the proposal for up to 35 wind turbines. Continue reading

Skypower deadline passes

Wellington Times    Update Dec. 4 : Stantec moved last Friday to vacate it’s liens on Prince Edward County properties leased and optioned to Skypower Corporation as part its Byran wind energy project. The Ontario Supreme Court approved the request.

The unsold remnants of the once high-flying wind energy developer, Skypower, have been cut loose.

The former chief executive and the debtor in possession, CIM Group, have taken over Skypower’s solar business near Napanee, its offices in Toronto and even its name. Continue reading
